KEY POINTS:
The pin appears to have been pulled on the Hollywood movie Kingdom Come about the life of Jesus Christ which was due to have been made in New Zealand.
Although no official announcement has been made, moteliers in Twizel, south Canterbury, have been sent emails cancelling bookings saying shooting would not now go ahead, The Timaru Herald reported.
The film was to have been filmed in various locations around New Zealand, including Falstone on the shore of Lake Benmore in south Canterbury.
Falstone was to have become Capernaum, a 3000-year-old fishing village, and Lake Benmore the Sea of Galilee in the Biblical movie.
At its peak the set had more than 100 contractors working on-site but there has been no work since before Christmas.
The film's New Zealand director Dean Wright was a visual effects supervisor on The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and Prince Caspian.
The film's producers did not respond to requests for comment.
