DaimlerChrysler will contact the New Zealand owners of 274 Jeep Cherokees as part of a worldwide recall after the discovery of an airbag fault.
The 474,000 vehicles involved were made between 1997 and 1999.
DaimlerChrysler said the recall was ordered after five incidents in the United States in which salt used to de-ice roads caused the airbag control module to corrode, making the airbags deploy inadvertently.
No malformations had been reported in this country.
