Javed Mills murder inquiry moves to Rotorua

Police investigating the death of Auckland man Javed Mills have been interviewing residents in Rotorua.

Mr Mills' remains were found at a house in Mt Wellington in September last year and police believe he died after an altercation at a nearby property in 2009.

James Grant Cooper, 24, has been charged with murdering Mr Mills, 25.

Contractors doing demolition work at the abandoned Mt Wellington property found Mr Mills' incomplete remains.

Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Hooper of Glen Innes CIB said a team of Auckland detectives had spent most of this week in Rotorua locating and interviewing people in connection with Mr Mills' death.

"We believe there are people in Rotorua who would have known Javed or the accused,'' he said.

"My team of detectives have been locating and interviewing those people.''

The Auckland detectives arrived in Rotorua on Tuesday and are expected to be going back to Auckland today.

"We will probably be coming back though,'' Mr Hooper said.
