Japanese tourist named as cyclist killed in Twizel crash

A Japanese tourist has been named as the person killed in a cycling accident with a truck earlier in the week.

Mitsuaki Inagaki of Nagano, Japan died in the crash along Tekapo-Twizel Rd in Pukaki on Wednesday.

The 61-year-old was on holiday in New Zealand.

Another cyclist, a 62-year-old man, was critically injured in the 6.20am crash and flown to Christchurch Hospital.

Inagaki was killed while taking part in a four-day 1200km cycle tour around the South Island, Fairfax Media reported.

Police said investigations into the crash are ongoing.

"The sympathies of police are offered to the friends and family of Mr Inagaki at this sad time," police said.
