Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida will meet Foreign Affairs Minister Murray McCully and Trade Minister Tim Groser in New Zealand this weekend.
Mr Kishida is the first minister from Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's cabinet to visit New Zealand.
"Japan's participation in the Trans Pacific Partnership negotiations opens a new chapter in our bilateral relationship," Mr McCully said.
"I look forward to discussions with Mr Kishida on how we can strengthen our cooperation, both bilaterally and in the wider region."
