It's hardly a desert island choice, but my current favourite beauty product is undoubtedly foundation. Despite experimenting with just about ever multi-tasking BB and CC cream made, I keep coming back to this old favourite cover-up. Not that I've got that much to hide, I just prefer wearing it rather than not.
Over the school holidays I've been away for a few nights here and there and, in packing up my kit, I've tried keeping the load light. Out come the cleansing wipes and away go the bottles. Makeup is kept minimal. But foundation always finds a home in my toilet bag.
I'd be lost without my lip balm and sunscreen is obviously vital for extended time outdoors, so they would top my essentials list if I was marooned far from a pharmacy, but in terms of the cosmetic I cling to, then foundation is right up there.
Sure I skip it sometimes, though not that often, and like mascara and lipstick, I feel better wearing it.
Psychologists could have a field day, but I've long since given up trying to rationalise feminism and face paint. Is it any more sensible to debate than why we like silk underthings and fine cotton sheets. These may be hidden indulgences, but are similarly about making us feel better and it doesn't take therapy to understand looking and feeling good has spin-off benefits.
