Motorists won't get any relief from one hour delays on a major North Shore arterial road feeding the Auckland Harbour Bridge until late October.
Major roadworks on Onewa Rd are scheduled to finish then.
Irate drivers told the Herald on Sunday there were no signs warning of the roadworks ahead.
North Shore City Council spokesman Francis Martin said despite the delays the council had received only 15 complaints from commuters regarding the delays during rush hour.
The council had assessed the signage and decided there wasn't the need for any more, said Martin.
The upgrade started in February.
Work is being carried out in nine stages and includes widening the road and putting power and phone lines underground.
Other stages will create an extension to an existing transit lane for cars with three or more passengers.
A shared cycle and footpath is also being created.
The Onewa Rd approach to the Harbour Bridge is the main commuter route for the North Shore suburbs of Glenfield, Northcote and Birkenhead.
