A 22-year-old man who stopped short of punching his mother in the face has been jailed for breaching a protection order.
The man, who has permanent name suppression, was drunk in the Wairarapa Hospital grounds this month, dropping bottles of beer on to the road and abusing drivers he stepped out in front of. Later in the day, he got into an argument with his mother about his drinking and went to punch her, but stopped short.
Masterton District Court heard the man struggled with alcohol addiction.
Judge Mary O'Dwyer sentenced him to three months' imprisonment with no post-release conditions.
