A man who filmed himself raping a woman has been jailed for nine years.
Mark John Hird, 28, was sentenced by Judge Kevin Phillips in Invercargill District Court yesterday after a jury found him guilty on last December of rape, burglary, injuring with intent to injure and two charges of kidnapping.
A minimum non-parole period of five years was imposed.
Hird broke into the woman's house in January last year and punched a man she was in bed with, The Southland Times reported
He pushed the man into a cupboard and repeatedly asked her for sex. When she said no he raped her.
Police later seized Hird's digital camera, which contained three minutes of explicit footage showing the woman crying.
Judge Phillips said the events of that night had been extremely traumatic for both victims.
The woman's impact statement told of her life being forever changed and Hird had never shown remorse and remained in denial.
