A 22-year-old Featherston man has had his home detention sentence revoked and has been sentenced to a short jail term.
Califf Anthony Dickson did not oppose Community Corrections' application to cancel his home detention sentence when he appeared before Judge Stephen Harrop in Masterton District Court recently and waived his right to a pre-sentence report so he could be sentenced immediately. He breached his sentence on October 18 by leaving his home without written consent of a probation officer. Dickson had been sentenced to five months' home detention after being convicted on a charge of injuring with intent. Defence lawyer Ian Hard said his client had completed a substantial amount of his sentence and spent two weeks in custody. He requested his client be given "due credit" for his remand in custody, as time served or a short jail term.
Judge Harrop sentenced Dickson to two months' jail. "When I weigh all this up you have served three of five months."
