KEY POINTS:
Main event
The big one this weekend has to be the third annual Parihaka Peace Festival, which kicks off at midday today and runs until Sunday evening.
The festival, beside the historic pa in South Taranaki, celebrates the vision of Parihaka founders Te Whiti o Rongomai and Tohu Kakahi, who advocated non-violent action in the face of oppression.
This year's huge line-up of local talent includes Hollie Smith, dDub, the Emma Paki Band, Katchafire, Moana and the Tribe, Unity Pacific Reggae Band and many more.
There is also children's entertainment and a healing zone.
Tickets are available from www.parihaka.com, and day passes will be available on Sunday.
For more information phone Te Miringa Hohaia on 0272-070-090.
Family fun
A group of friends in Warkworth present their first exhibition of unique artworks, including paintings, pottery and mixed media works.
The exhibition is open from 9am-4pm today, tomorrow and Sunday at the Old Masonic Hall in Warkworth.
And if food rather than art appeals to your family, head off to Great Barrier Island tomorrow for the Great Port Fitzroy Musselfest, from 10am.
This community carnival features live music, food (not just mussels), drink, stalls and entertainment for all, at the Boatclub in Port Fitzroy.
Going out
Kantuta play their mix of salsa, merengue and modern Latino dance tunes at Jellicoe Park in Onehunga from 6-9pm tomorrow.
