With more and more people turning to internet job boards to plan their next career move, it was only a matter of time before someone decided to differentiate their site by using video.
The folks from GoManiacs have taken the plunge, and hired Aussie Darran Scott to be the frontman for ManiadTV, the website with pictures, sound and motion, and an offbeat attitude to job ads.
He promises to make advertising, and searching through the ads, more entertaining, and isn't afraid of using a bit of innuendo to make the point: "So if you want a VJ, a vid job, as opposed to a BJ, boring job - you thought I was going to say something else then, didn't you - then drop us a line on the journey to the next generation of job advertising."
Is this the next generation of job advertising? It's too early to tell. The site had just 12 video ads showing over the second half of April.
The site has 29 sector groups to search, but only four of them had any videos registered. Surprisingly, they weren't all in IT, and none were in advertising, media and entertaining, sectors which, logically, would be early adapters.
Would you guess that an ad for a cost estimator and a plumber were among the first up?
For job seekers, there's no charge to view these ads (apart from having to sit through a few painful verbal and visual puns).
Helpfully, there's a transcript of each ad under the video, so you don't have to replay it every time you want to check out the details.
For advertisers the site charges $150 per job to script and produce the ad, then post it on this site, seek and YouTube.
It's early days, but it could be worth keeping an eye on the site to see if it takes off and to see what Darran gets up to next. Ashley Campbell
