West Auckland turned on its finest barbie for the world's most famous golfer yesterday: meat on the spit, a few beers from a concrete tub, and a party in a barn.
The day after his Kiwi caddy Steve Williams got married, Tiger Woods headed west, enjoying a few beers with other guests as curious neighbours wandered up the drive to meet the American.
The barbie, at Williams' and new wife Kirsty Millar's lifestyle block in Kumeu, kept the golfer entertained before he heads to yet another glamorous Kiwi location - Huntly, where tomorrow he races stock cars at the local track.
For a man who has dined in the some of the world's finest restaurants, a Westie-do seemed fine. The locals got posh for their visitor - the beer on offer was Heineken and the Lion Red, if there was any, stayed inside the barn.
On Friday, Woods and Williams calmed any pre-wedding jitters with an early-morning game of golf. Aucklander Shane Storrie (handicap 14) and a mate were playing the South Head course, near Helensville, when they bumped into the celebrity duo in the carpark.
Tiger signed autographs and posed for photographs before heading into the clubhouse for a glass of water.
