The Marine Industry Association has added its backing to the V8 street race.
CEO Peter Busfield says his association welcomes major international events which bring visitors to the city as well as providing business opportunities for New Zealand companies.
After concerns about restrictions, the association has been assured that the boating public and Westhaven marine industry clients will have free access from north and west via Curran St/Westhaven Drive and from the south from Quay St/Viaduct Harbour Ave and Gaunt St during the event.
Fort Lauderdale gears up for megayachts
A development consortium is planning to convert a Fort Lauderdale repair yard into a marina to accommodate megayachts.
Summerfield Boat Works will be redeveloped to handle more superyachts as well as smaller sailboats and the new complex will include brokerage offices and other facilities.
Fort Lauderdale is growing in importance as a marine marketing destination.
Canada leads the way with biodiesel
A marina in Ontario has become the first to offer its clients biodiesel fuel as an alternative to petroleum-based fuels.
Approved by the Canadian Environmental Protection Agency, biodiesel is a vegetable-oil-based fuel that can be used in any diesel engine with no modifications.
It significantly reduces emissions such as carbon monoxide, unburned hydrocarbons and particulate matter and meets the clean diesel standards established by Environment Canada.
