Canterbury boatbuilder Frank Simpson is the first winner of the Industry NZ Lifetime of Innovative Achievement Award presented at the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show. He began building GRP production boats in 1958, helping to revolutionise what until then had been a timber-based industry. Another first-time honour, the World-Class Innovation Award, went to Auckland's Rayglass Boats, for its Protector series, now being sold internationally in both commercial and recreational configurations.

The resort will include three Jack Nicklaus-designed golf courses, yacht clubs, casinos and boutiques around a 4km Grand Canal.
