A customised Stabi-Craft 509 Fisher is on its way to join a fleet of 10 of the Invercargill company's boats working for the United Nations in Myanmar. The UN High Commission for Refugees bought its first Stabi-Craft seven years ago on the recommendation of marine consultant Bo Colomby. The consultant says his brief was to find a boat that was rugged and stable, and had the capability to run efficiently even when inexpertly driven. The Stabi-Craft flotilla performs in an area where rivers are as important as roads, helping to resettle more than 250,000 refugees from Bangladesh on the western border of Myanmar. The 509 Fishers have been built to carry six passengers under a full overhead canopy - making them comfortable people-carriers in an area with extremes of heat and rain.
MID-YEAR DINNER
With a successful 21st-anniversary celebration completed, the Farr 1020 Association has a mid-year dinner as the next big item on its social calendar. Venue is the restaurant at Westpark Marina. Berths are available at the marina for "down harbour" boats opting to sail rather than drive to the June 12 dinner. Details from Sue Jenness on (09) 483 5051.
MAATS SELL-OUT
Organisers say the Marine Aftermarket Accessories Trade Show (MAATS) to be held in Las Vegas from July 8 to 11 is a sell-out. Just under 300 companies have booked all 440 booths covering 3280sq m of exhibition space.
The summer racing programmes have ended and this weekend there is a break in competitive action before the winter schedule starts.
