European charter sailing specialist Sandine Dubey has been added to the Auckland-based team at Sunsail to cater for the growing number of New Zealanders interested in cruising the Mediterranean. Sunsail chief Shane Walker says New Zealanders have always had a fascination with the Med, and this has grown with the opening up of spectacular eastern European waters such as those around Croatia. Dubey has an extensive knowledge of the area and can thoroughly brief the company's clients planning to sail there. Sunsail has a dozen bases in locations that include the French Riviera, Corsica, Greece and Turkey.
CRUISE WINNERS
Hamilton couple Chris and Judy Johnstone are the winners of a $22,000 six-day fishing holiday to the Three Kings aboard John Gregory's luxury 19.2m charter boat Prime Time. Buying a Furuno fish-finder put them into the national draw for the big prize, which capped off a great start to the year for Chris. With flying partner Noel Bailey he had earlier won the 10-day Around New Zealand Air Race in the Cessna 172 the pair own.
TOP RUNABOUT
American Powerboat magazine has awarded the new Chaparral 256 SSi, from Marine Products Corporation, the Runabout of the Year award for 2004. The citation says the runabout has "a big boat feel with the handling and acceleration of a sportboat".
