It isn't all doom and gloom at the Viaduct Harbour now the America's Cup has gone. Because the weather stretched the regatta, the organisers of the Boating New Zealand On-the-Water Boat Show moved their event on two weeks. It will now run from March 20 to 24. Boating Industry Association executive director Peter Busfield says the new dates mean a reshuffling of exhibitors, but also extra on-land covered space on Te Whero Island which will give more room for exhibitors.
Tournament No 4
The fourth Bayleys Kingfish Lodge gamefishing tournament will run from March 10 to 14. Entry is limited to 40 boats with a maximum of four anglers on each. Prize money totals $210,000 with $150,000 for the heaviest marlin over 310kg. The winner of the Bayleys tournament will qualify to take a team of four anglers to the International Game Fish Association championships in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
Amphibian interest
Sealegs, the Auckland-developed amphibious boat featured in the Marine section last month, is attracting serious interest, in this country and offshore. Maurice Bryham, the man behind the project, plans to take the threewheeler RIB on tour from the end of the month. The road-and-water show will take in most North Island marine centres and the Marlborough Sounds. On the web: Sealegs
