The Cruising Yacht Club of Australia has announced a satellite tracker system for this year's Sydney-Hobart race, which starts on Boxing Day. The site will be active in the lead-up to the 630-nautical-mile ocean race down the Australian east coast. The system will provide real time positions of yachts throughout the race, updating every 10 minutes.
Trust response
Bill McCarthy has had a huge response to the Weekend Marine feature on the Classic Yacht Charitable Trust. People have been calling in with memorabilia and photographs of the yachts Waitangi and Gloriana, and others have been signing on to help with manning and maintenance. The trust is also on the lookout for a suitably qualified operations manager. All inquiries to PO Box 24, Greenhithe, Auckland, or email maccom@xtra.co.nz
