The WaterSafe Auckland Safe Summer campaign moves into a new phase this month after successful beach and pool promotions during the school holidays. The message being emphasised by Watersafe Auckland, ACC and Mai FM teams is to always supervise children near water. Action today is between 1pm and 3pm at Waiwera Pools and from 11am to 1pm tomorrow at Muriwai Beach.
Cup spin-off
Yamaha marine dealers in 171 countries learned all they ever wanted to know about the America's Cup and New Zealand in the latest edition of Chantey, the outboard motor company's newsletter. The cover and four inside pages were devoted to the cup.
Powerboat series
Tidelines last weekend noted the pending Manukau-Auckland Speedboat Clubs class series championships at Mangere Bridge. But the item omitted the dates of the event. The championships will be held next weekend, February 15 and 16, with a 10am start.
Big increase
Attendance at this year's Melbourne Summer Boat Show was up by more than 40 per cent to 35,000 people. Organisers and exhibitors believe the venue change to NewQuay, with its upmarket cafes and marinas, had a lot to do with the increase.
