The first Safe Summer campaign promotions begin this weekend. The MAI FM road crew and representatives from Coastguard and WaterSafe Auckland will be getting their messages across at Okahu Bay. The Coastguard action starts from 8am, then from 10am there will be music, drama and giveaways until noon. The team hits the beach at Piha on Sunday morning also, from 10 to noon.

Auckland-based Safety at Sea (Australasia) Ltd has sponsored one of the 11-boat MRX match-racing fleet. The company has also provided the fleet with its new-generation inflatable lifejackets. Company chief Lloyd Klee says it is important top sailors set an example by wearing lifejackets on the racecourse.

Two more boatbuilding companies, Galloway International and Formula Cruisers, have joined the 10 inaugural subscribers to the marine industry's new export office in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

There's a busy programme for a wide range of competitive yachting this weekend.
Saturday: Two-handed Waiheke race (DYC); Lidgard Memorial (PCC); cruising race (BBYC); harbour race (RNZYS); Old Fox to Rakino (WYC); Gulf race series (WeitiBC); Black Heart cruising race to Rakino and two-handed classes (RAYC).
Saturday and Sunday: 3.7 North Shore championships (TBC); Torbay youth regatta (TSC).
Sunday: Centenary of Janet launching (DYC); Wright design open day, X marina, Westhaven, 10am to 3pm
