Marine historians Harold Kidd and Robin Elliott have marked the centenary of the Ponsonby Cruising Club with a comprehensive record of some often tumultuous times.
The First 100 Years covers the formation of the Ponce in 1900 and takes the story to the beginning of the new century. It's all there: trophies contested, battles won and lost, interclub rivalry, famous boats and sailing personalities - and some great action pictures.
The acknowledgments pay a deserved tribute to Don Croul and Roger Weetman of Printing Express, a company that has been a major supporter of mullet boat racing and assisted with publication of the history.
The book is available from the club (09) 376 0245 and from most bookshops for $35.
Sail the States
From June 5 to 27 an innovative Discover Boating project will take in 27 cities in a loop from New York through the Great Lakes, down the Mississippi, through the Gulf of Mexico, on to the Atlantic Coast and back to New York.
The Boat Across America tour aims to demonstrate how easy it is to get into boating, and promotes safety on the water.
Exhibition record
Exhibitor numbers for this year's Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show have reached a record 340. Organisers say the May 30 to June 2 exhibition at the Queensland marina and waterfront village will feature 50 international product releases and include a big contingent of New Zealand exhibitors.
