The September/October issue of the American magazine WoodenBoat, devoted to classic craft around the world, pays tribute to the New Zealand National Maritime Museum. Written by the editor, Matthew P. Murphy, the six-page feature covers the museum's attractions and pays tribute to our early designers, including Logan and Bailey. Murphy also includes an item about the New Zealand Classic Yachts charter operation.
Next expands
Wellington company Next Yachts has added two models to its line-up. The company has two Next 56 models in production at Custom Yachts in Auckland. Martin Foster, Next CEO and design director, says Next 47 and 75 versions have been added to the portfolio. The 75 will be a semi-production model like the 56, but the 47 will be a full production yacht, Foster says. He says the range is aimed at the yachtsman seeking a family-friendly design that does not sacrifice performance. The basic Next 56 will cost $1.3 million, the 47 is $785,000 and the 75 is $4.9 million.
Aquapro prize
A 4.1m Aquapro RIB with a 30hp Yamaha on the back will be auctioned to raise money for youth yachting at the Line 7 Wharf Yacht Club's golf day at Huapai on October 18. Club warden Dick Jones says all but three of the $1600 hole sponsorships have been sold and the club expects to raise more than the $30,000 the last tournament collected. Membership of the club is still open on The Wharf
Doubling up
The Geoff Thomas-edited New Zealand Fishing World has gone bi-monthly after just four issues. The glossy fishing mag started as a quarterly a year ago. The 116-page October/November issue puts the accent on trevally.
Water-Watch
It's Saturday action only for organised sailing this weekend. The Fistful O'Dollars series regatta continues at Torbay and the Richmond Yacht Club's spring regatta will sail out of Westhaven.
Groups and organisations planning an event on, in or under the water on either the Waitemata or Manukau harbours should register with the Auckland Regional Council Enviroline on 0800 80 60 40.
