The New Zealand National Maritime Museum has an exhibition of paintings, photographs and mosaics, Sheer, running until June 30. They are by three students from the Elam School of Fine Arts. From June 22 to October 14 Set a Course for the Future will be on in the entrance gallery. The exhibition by the Maritime School and the School of Marine Technology at Unitec will demonstrate the range and content of courses available there. The museum is also finalising arrangements to host the acclaimed Louis Vuitton 150 Years of the America's Cup exhibition at present in Japan. At the northern end of Hobson Wharf, the little Puke, the country's oldest steamship, is undergoing maintenance including a major refit of the engine.
Copyright suit
A Fort Lauderdale, Florida, company operating a computerised yacht-sales listing service is suing the International Yacht Council, its president Barbara Tierney, and others over alleged copyright breaches. BUC International says its copyrighted boat listings have been used unfairly by yacht broker Tierney and two other Florida sales companies to compete against the BUC operation. The US District Court of Florida will hear the case.
Pedal patrol
After a successful introduction in Hawaii and on the west coast, the United States Coastguard is introducing bike patrols on Cape Cod through the summer. With millions of tourists and a big boating population, Marine Safety Field Office supervisor Lieutenant Joel Roberts says the patrols will be looking for pollution incidents. The idea is to help marine operators deal with incidents through information rather than enforcement.
