Yesterday the Boating Industry Association became the Marine Industry Association. Chief executive Peter Busfield says the change better reflects the wide range of businesses that now make up the association.
Membership of the BIA, formed 38 years ago, was made up largely of companies which built small wooden powerboats. Today's members cover companies that design, build and service a wide array of boats from tiny RIB tenders to superyachts. British mission A British trade mission will be in New Zealand from Tuesday to Friday next week. Companies represented will be looking to sell steering systems, high-tech rigging, remote monitoring systems, electronics, battery management systems, rigid inflatable boats and tenders, corrosion control systems and European Union consultancy services.
Paddle parade:
A canoe village will be a feature of the London Boat Show in January, highlighting canoes and kayaks for the first time in several years. Paddle sports are being encouraged to exhibit at traditional boat shows in America. For many years, sea kayaking and other paddle activities have used New Zealand boat shows to gain exposure.
