The Dive Adventure and Travel Court will be back for the New Zealand Boat Show this year. The reintroduction of the pool to the Auckland Showgrounds arena squeezed the Dive Court out of the picture for the past couple of years because of pressure on space. The pool has gone for the next show, which runs from May 29 to June 2. Details at Dive New Zealand.
Engineering deal
The Palmerston North company Conzept Engineering Solutions has begun manufacturing Noske-Kaeser marine air conditioning and fire protection systems. Conzept business development manager Steve Papworth says the agreement with the German company means they can now supply a complete range of equipment and systems for any major project. Austal Ships, Riviera and Sensation are already on their books.
Sea changes
A network of 20 recorders around the New Zealand coast has allowed Niwa (the National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research) to study the variability of our sea levels. At Kaiteriteri, at the top of the South Island, sea levels can change 5m within the tide, but at nearby Kapiti Island the range is only 2m. On the Piha side of Auckland the sea fluctuates more than it does in the Hauraki Gulf. The reason? New Zealand is a small landmass in the middle of huge oceans on which it has little influence.
Water-watch
The final stages of the women's national keelboat championships are one of the highlights of the sailing calendar this weekend. Other activity:
Saturday: Gulf race series (Weiti BC); Gulf race series (KYC); Summer cruising race (RYC).
Saturday and Sunday: Women's keelboat championships continue (RAYC); Farr 10.20 nationals (BBYC).
Sunday: His and hers race (PYBC).
* Clubs and organisations planning activity on the Waitemata or Manukau harbours should register with the Auckland Regional Council Enviroline on (09) 366 2070.
