Sergeant Martin Paget, officer in charge of Auckland's Police Maritime Unit, is warning boaties to ensure their boats and equipment are properly identifiable. Boats and motors in particular are hard to identify if the police don't have the serial numbers. A runabout worth thousands of dollars stolen last week was quickly recovered, and because the Maritime Unit had identification details the person found with the boat was immediately charged and is now heading through the courts. For information on identification systems call the unit on (09) 357 3470.
Sydney sell-out
The Sydney International Boat Show, being held at Darling Harbour from July 26 to 31 is a sell-out. Boating Industry Association manager Roy Privett says all the 27,000 sq m of exhibition space has been filled. The 700m of marina space is also sold out. More than 140 boats will be moored there, including a 29m Italian motor yacht.
Golif recreated
A Marseilles-based group of sailing enthusiasts is planning to put a 40-year-old fibreglass sailboat back into production. The yacht is the 6.5m sloop-rigged Golif, designed by Jean-Pierre Jouet and introduced at the 1962 Paris Boat Show. The design was made famous when Jean Lacombe sailed one in the 1964 Observer Singlehanded Trans-Atlantic race.

Thirty-five will be delivered to the Solent aboard a semi-submersible boat-carrier in early August.
