The Henderson, Auckland, company Manson Marine has won the contract to build the huge anchors for the Ron Holland-designed Mirabella V, now under construction in Britain. At 75.2m, the Mirabella will be the world's biggest superyacht. The stainless steel Ray 316 anchors will weigh 600kg and 400kg.
Coastguard deal
The New Zealand Coastguard Federation and Toyota Financial Services are planning a joint project that will give boat- owners, particularly new boat-owners, access to a Coastguard-approved marine finance package. This means boaters who have done the courses to help to make them safe skippers will get a better deal on finance.
Toyota Marine Finance managing director John Garland says the system is being tested in New Zealand in a way that will make it easier for owners to get into boating, and to do so more safely. More details are set to be announced at the New Zealand Boat Show.
Yamaha power
The Viaduct Harbour company Ocean Rafting has introduced a new thrill ride powered by three 200hp Saltwater Series Yamaha two-stroke outboards.
The new raft is a 12m Protector RIB that will carry 28 passengers. Company chief Mark Cleave says it will complement the two existing boats powered by twin outboards.
