Tidelines: $54,000 catch

Being allocated the lucky number 13 helped Dene Wyllie to drive away with the big prize, worth $54,000, in the Lion Red Furuno fishing contest at Kawau last weekend. This Haines Hunter SF535 is powered by a Yamaha 115 outboard and has a full range of electronics, fishing tackle and safety equipment.

New show awards

Three award categories have been added to the line-up for the 2004 Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show, from June 3 to 7 at the Auckland Showgrounds. Exhibitions manager Dave Gibbs says a 6m to 7m size band has been added to the most popular trailerboat awards, all purpose GRP, fishing boat and aluminium fishing boat. "In the past two years our open sections have included boats from just over 6m to more than 8m, and we decided it was unreasonable to ask manufacturers to compete over such a big range."

Sunday: Central masters swim, Rangitoto to St Heliers, 10.15 start; Flap Martinego race (Richmond YC); Women's race (Weiti BC).
