Tuhoe activist Tame Iti says he intends to call 499 witnesses to give evidence at his trial.
Appearing in the registrar's list of the Whakatane District Court, Iti, 53, of Ruatoki, faces charges of possession of a firearm in a public place without a licence and possession of a firearm, namely a shotgun, in a public place except for some lawful purpose.
Further charges may be laid.
He was remanded on bail for another pre-depositions hearing on March 30.
