KEY POINTS:
Ports of Auckland says it would be prepared to release land for a waterfront stadium - but only if its cargo operations can run without interruption.
It would also require compensation for all damage to its business.
The company warned after a meeting of its board yesterday that it would take some time to build replacement facilities after all consents were in hand.
But it was unable to indicate how long that would be because, managing director Geoff Vazey said, it had yet to receive any commercial proposal to evaluate.
Mr Vazey said, although other interim facilities might yet become available for early access to the waterfront by Fletcher Building, none had been found so far that would meet a tight time-line for constructing a piled platform for the stadium across Captain Cook and Marsden wharves.
"The overriding concern of directors," he said, "is to maintain the efficient operation of the port and the quality of service to its customers."
