Act leader Rodney Hide has signalled he is likely to lay a complaint with the Auditor-General if the Government decides on a waterfront stadium for the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
Mr Hide today asked Auditor-General Kevin Brady if it was within his authority to examine decisions such as whether a stadium on Auckland's waterfront should go ahead.
The Government gave Auckland City Council and Auckland Regional Council just two weeks to decide whether they preferred a waterfront option or an upgrade Eden Park.
The deadline expires this Friday.
Mr Hide said he held concerns about the rushed nature of the decision-making process and whether adequate information was available.
Mr Brady said his office did give best practice advice on procurement and could look at whether a decision followed proper guidelines.
"We could comment on the adequacy of information on which a decision was made, but we couldn't challenge the decision itself."
He noted that no decision had yet been made in relation to which stadium would be used for the Rugby World Cup.
Mr Hide indicated he was likely to write a letter of complaint to the Auditor-General if the waterfront option was chosen.
