Birdwatchers who flocked to see a rare breed of swallow that hasn't been seen in Britain for 20 years got a nasty surprise when the bird was eaten by a hawk in front of their eyes. The twitchers had been watching the red-rumped swallow for 20 minutes when a sparrowhawk swooped, near Montrose in Scotland. Group member Mike Sawyer said: "We were horrified. We had just called other birdwatchers to tell them the news, and then had to call back to say it had been eaten". (Source: Metro.co.uk)

A German doctor has been ordered to pay child support to a patient who got pregnant despite using a contraceptive implant. The precedent-setting ruling gives both parents, who are not married, the right to receive child support from the doctor until their son reaches adulthood. The doctor inserted a contraceptive implant into the arm of the woman who later found she was pregnant and it was too late for an abortion. The woman says she was unable to continue her work as a kindergarten teacher and could not support herself and the child. The gynaecologist will pay $1150 a month until the child turns 18.
