Thousands of the Snow Lion "Free Tibet" flags have been made in China. Police in southern China have discovered a factory in Guangdong manufacturing Free Tibet flags for overseas orders. The flag of the Tibetan government-in-exile is being made by workers who said they thought they were just making colourful flags and did not realise their meaning. But then some of them saw TV images of protesters holding the emblem and they alerted the authorities, according to Hong Kong's Ming Pao newspaper.

Reinforcing the perception that Labour is an elitist women's only club, a fundraiser organised by Labour candidate Kate Sutton and marketed through Facebook is to be a high tea and champagne affair at Alberton House this Sunday. The information says "all funds go to Labour Aucklands female candidates [sic]". One centre-right blogger says: "High Tea and champagne at Alberton House, the colonial mansion built by an elite landed family. Very bourgeois." Not exactly a pie and sauce do down at the local abattoir, is it? (Source: Conservator Occidentalis blog)

A reader from Kohimarama writes: "Thumbs down to the trashy driver/owner of the red Mercedes convertible who tossed overboard her discarded banana skin while driving on Remuera Rd. When berated by me this woman, of an age who should know better, drawled: "Well, thank you for that." I think she shows her true colours, a bit like her flashy car - all shiny on top but definitely grubby underneath.

British tourists are paying more than £100 ($255) to watch endangered Asian lions kill tethered cattle at an Indian wildlife reserve. To ensure that tourists do not go home disappointed, tour guides are offering "baitwalla shows", in which the lions are lured out of the forest towards villages on the outskirts of their sanctuary by cattle tied to tractors. When the lion picks up the scent, the cow is dragged towards the tour group waiting close by and finally untied so that the tourists can watch it being caught, killed and eaten from as little as 3m away. Local officials say some visitors eat lunch at dining tables while they watch. (Timesonline.co.uk)

Cricketers at the Harrogate Cricket Club have been banned from hitting sixes because of health and safety concerns. Big hitters will be automatically out, under the new rules. The decision was made after a meeting with nearby residents. Most of the neighbours are very supportive of the club, but a few complain about balls in their gardens, says the club's chairman. "As long as everyone knows the rules at the start of the game, you just play to the rules."
