Tammy Simpson tells of her first encounter with the Albany Park-and-Ride. "On Monday I tried my luck getting a park at the Albany Park-and- Ride, because the Constellation Station parks where I normally go have been full every morning since university has gone back. I arrived nice and early to find there were ample parks, but when I came back to my car that afternoon, there was a flyer attached to my windscreen from the North Shore City Council warning me that I had parked illegally and next time I may get a fine and/or have my vehicle towed. I looked around for signs to suggest that perhaps I was parked illegally but could not find any evidence. Turns out the council's explanation was that a few cars had been parking illegally and it had decided to warn everyone by attaching flyers to the windscreens of every single car parked at the park-and-ride. It's good to see our council is using resources efficiently and encouraging commuters to use the park-and-ride."

Unusual rugby names: "My brother named his son Devereaux Francois," says Myles Ferris. "The Devereaux is after the Welsh centre John Devereaux and the Francois is after the Springbok flanker and captain Francois Pienaar. Dev's brother is Marshall Tremain ... after Justin Marshall and Kel Tremain."

Two Aucklanders try to out-nice each other: "Recently I had my faith renewed in the state of humanity," says a reader. "My uncle hit a parked car, causing minor damage. As expected he left his name and phone number. The owner of the vehicle was surprised to confirm the phone details were accurate and that a person was prepared to recompense for damage. As it happened, the damage was so minor it was not worth the cost of repair, approximately $100. My uncle could not let that rest and sent a cheque for $50 to compensate for the inconvenience, but in response the owner of the damaged vehicle sent back a note saying the $50 was excessive and enclosed $30 in petrol vouchers."
