KEY POINTS:
Glenn Young now knows why the diary he bought at an unnamed Dollar Store was so cheap. "I was amused to find that five weeks of the year had an extra Monday each (groan), there were two extra Tuesdays, Wednesdays Thursdays, and December 31st falls on a Wecemday!

Strange, but real products: A company called The Pond Inc is now selling a product to overcome smelly flatulence. It's an activated carbon fabric pad which sticks to the inside of the user's underwear with two adhesive strips. As the wind breaks, the product filters the flatulence, absorbing and neutralising its odour. (Source: www.garmentguard.com)

Last word on bikes and cars: Mark the cyclist responds to the responses. "I am both a motorist and a cyclist and there are bad road users on both sides of the road user divide. The purpose of my original email was to point out that most motorists and pedestrians do not realise the speeds cyclists travel at. Motorists think there is enough room to pull out, when there's not. I have made bad manoeuvres on the bike and in the car. The difference is that in a car I have air bags, safety belts, four-wheel disk brakes and a protective steel shell. On my bike I have some thin lycra and cable-powered rubber brakes. Regardless of who is at fault I know who wins. And when the cyclist loses they don't get a second chance."

Despite a reader's grumblings yesterday, Howard Jack and his partner are very pleased with Qantas Frequent Flyer points: "By using our credit card plus some Qantas fully paid fares, we have enjoyed five free return flights to Europe over the past five years. Taxes are paid regardless and it's always easy to find short-haul specials that seem to make a nonsense of FF points requirements. Save up your points and use them for a longer trip."

Sylvia's a creature of habit and always refers to the TVNZ website for her TV listings (below). "While I expected listings for the new channels TVNZ 6 and TVNZ 7 to be included now these channels are live, I marvelled at their placement. Much as I'd like to attribute this creative numbering system to dyscalculia, I imagine that the new order of things was a calculated decision; giving 'channel ownership' precedence over what's intuitive and logical. Sad really, because the end result looks rather retarded."
