Peter from Westmere was stunned to read of the study that finds people are using Twitter to fuel narcissism.
"Are these researchers trying to tell me that people who write 'Having pizza. Hawaiian, my fave. Yum' and send it out into cyberspace to a whole lot of 'friends' they have never met are self-absorbed, solipsistic and have too much time on their hands? This is a revelation. I am going to have to completely reconsider my view of Twitter."
Potter helps with pronunciation
Hermione Prentice writes: "It is true about words that people have only seen written down being mispronounced. For most of my life people have mispronounced my name as Her- me- O-nee, Hermi-One and Her-Moanee. I always knew when the new teacher was at my name on the roll because there would be a long pause. However since Harry Potter I have had a lot less mispronunciation problems."
Laughing stock of the lunchroom
John Watson says: "My Watties Chicken Chow Mein had a delightful picture on the box of chicken in a bed of sauce with noodles and veges. But I opened the box to find noodles, some gel-like substance I assume was sauce and one tiny piece of broccoli. In short, there was NO chicken in it. Watties might like to look at their quality control processes."
Christmas spirit for elderly ...
On Monday James turned onto Ti Rakau Drive to find traffic at a standstill with a police car blocking the road, lights flashing. "I immediately thought the worst until I noticed an elderly lady crossing the road with her shopping. Mrs Shopper must have been stuck on the median strip until the sharp-thinking copper came along. The incident was nicely finished off with a kind wave from the elderly lady. One for the police finally!"
... and for wheelchair-bound
Vanessa watched as two young men helped a wheelchair-bound man swim at Okahu Bay.
"They pushed him down the sand, helped him swim, then pushed him back up. It was nice to see this care from strangers. I am sure the gentleman appreciated it!"
