Professional misconduct: A New York dentist, George Trusty, was sued after a drill bit snapped and lodged near a patient's eye, allegedly because he was dancing to the song Car Wash on the radio while tending to the patient. Also, an Illinois eye doctor's assistant, Joseph Vernell jnr, was sued after a patient complained that, in a dark room "exam", Vernell was detected licking her toes (but then explaining that he was actually "checking [her] sugar level". Over-anxious brides-to-be want their bridesmaids to sign contracts promising not to put on weight or get pregnant before the big day. More than one in five women planning their wedding would ask their maid-of-honour to sign a written bridal "pre-nuptial agreement", a survey found. Almost 48 per cent said they would sack a bridesmaid who did not abide by the contract. The survey, commissioned by You & Your Wedding magazine, asked more than a thousand women which clauses they would like to see in a contract. Favourite answers included not putting on weight, not falling pregnant intentionally and not changing a hairstyle before the wedding day.
