An American man has been arrested after filling out a job application form before robbing a dairy. Police in Athens, Georgia, found Demetrius Robinson, 28 - a suspect in a number of local armed robberies - after he filled out a job application in the store to pass time until he and the clerk were alone. After the last customer left, he went behind the counter, pressed a steak knife into the clerk's side and made off with the contents of the till, according to police. Detectives said the man gave a bogus address on the form - but his real name and his uncle's telephone number. No word on whether he has a shot at the job. (Source: Ananova)

Oliver Ruke writes: "I've always been told that the reason God doesn't intervene with worldly events is that we have free will, and to do so would otherwise interfere with that. However, it's good to know that he has changed his mind and now intervenes with such vital events as helping a bishop get to a wedding on time. I'm looking forward to him doing something really important next time - maybe healing an amputee, or saving the thousands of people who die in Africa each year from starvation. Let me know when it happens, please."

The Queen St doorway messed up with clothes and papers pictured in SideSwipe yesterday has been the bed for a couple of homeless people for a while now, according to one reader. "Their belongings used to be put above the cupboard that is on the left of the picture during the day. But in the picture it looks as if the former cubby hole has been boarded up. I pass that doorway every day ... The belongings haven't moved in about a week."

Peter McAlley writes: "It always amazes me to hear of people like Phillipa Sanders who get annoyed with their cellphones ringing at inconvenient times. Eventually most of them seem to wake up to the fact that phones can be turned off. It's simply incredible how clever modern technology is!"
