An Australian man convicted of his seventh drink-driving charge was spending about A$1000 ($1300) a week on beer - enough to buy more than 400 small bottles at the wholesaler's. The construction worker began drowning his sorrows after breaking up with his partner five years ago, the Northern Territory News said. Michael Leary had since quit drinking and the judge banned Leary from buying or even holding a beer for 12 months. Poking fun at Leary's favourite beer, the magistrate said Leary showed poor judgment on two counts - "drinking that much and drinking Melbourne Bitter".

Quit moaning about petrol prices and subscribe to The Cheap Petrol Project and get a 10c-a-litre discount card. Brainchild of Aucklander Sammy Mishriki, the idea is that a large group have stronger buying power than individuals and therefore are in a better position to negotiate a cheaper rate on petrol. "Once we reach our goal of 10,000 sign-ups, our collective buying power will equal about 20.5 million litres of petrol a year. But more importantly we should hit 50,000 people by the end of the year, which means an annual petrol usage of over 100 million litres. Now that's a force to be taken seriously." Mishriki is in negotiations with major oil companies and currently there are 5800 petrol consumers signed up.

Two lovers ended up in hospital in Taiwan after their car plunged 45m down a cliff face as they made love in the back seat. Lin Gu, 25, and Lee Shin, 29, were left with broken bones and bruises after parking close to the edge of a mountain and leaving the handbrake off, reports Today News. When they started having sex the rocking motion started the car moving and it rolled off the hill.
The couple managed to clamber back up to the road, where the woman asked the man to keep walking while she sought help at a nearby house. Home owner Chen Chenggang said the woman pleaded with him not to reveal how the accident happened as her husband "would definitely sue for divorce".
