The Queen's preferred chocolatier has resigned from his position after being caught on surveillance camera squishing a rival company's truffles at the Hotel Chocolat store in Nottingham. The master chocolatier, Barry Colenso from Thorntons, was observed handling truffles in a suspicious manner, leaving a trail of destruction across the display counter as truffle after truffle was mercilessly squashed under thumb. "This was an extraordinary act of truffle-squishing. We can only guess at what provoked it," said a Hotel Chocolat spokesman. (Source: Daily Telegraph)

Vicki Burnett suggests Maxx might like to change the way its on-line journey planner works: "When I asked it to tell me the quickest way to get from Ellerslie to Britomart by 4.25pm, it suggested I walk 8049 metres - which would take two hours. Fortunately I have a timetable and managed to find a train that would be a little quicker."

Michael Burgess writes: "In response to Ingrid Hutton's comment about the science degree 'Litmus Test' in yesterday's Sideswipe: I think it's time for a spot of peer-reviewed opinion. If Ingrid had attended Auckland University, she would have been taught that as with many pH indicators used in analytical chemistry, litmus can be used as a solution (hence the sloshing), not just as paper. A simple internet search reveals several suppliers from whom litmus solution can be purchased. Does this mean that Otago University just failed the Litmus Test?"

A New York City bride has filed a $400,000 lawsuit over her wedding flowers. Bride Elana Glatt alleges that the hydrangeas were the wrong colour. Instead of US$27,000 worth of dark rust and green hydrangeas specified, Glatt got pastel pink and green. She says they were also wilted and brown, and arranged in dusty vases without enough water. The bride's lawyer had this to say: "The use of predominantly pastel centerpieces had a significant impact on the look of the room and was entirely inconsistent with the vision the plaintiffs had bargained for."
