TVNZ cameraman David Pierce reckons Tom can be thankful that it was only the Kathmandu store workers who he had to convince he wasn't shoplifting: "My colleague and I were re-entering Israel after havingspent a couple of days in Gaza filming. After triggering an alarm during an electronic body search we were accused of bringing back a weapon. Denial after denial wouldn't convince them that we had no gun stashed under our clothes, and my colleague was asked to step back through the electronic scan. Things took a turn for the worse when a female soldier started putting on rubber gloves. After a quick hand search she was free to go. Turns out they were picking up the same thing - a trusty Kathmandu security tag left in the shorts."

Craig says: "When walking through a mall in St Petersburg, Russia, my girlfriend's Kathmandu travel trousers kept setting off "shoplifting" alarms. We were eventually caught by an armed Russian guard. After much sign language (he spoke no English), we eventually convinced him we were not shoplifting by cutting out the tag at the back of the trousers."

Kris from the North Shore says her daughter has had issues with a Kathmandu bag that beeps in nearly every store she goes into. She says the assistant at the Albany branch showed her the little electronic tag inside the bag and explained that they don't always de-activate. "You have to find the tag and give it a good working-over to bend it and break the circuits - and unfortunately in a lot of cases the tag is right inside the lining so you can't cut it out/off without wrecking the new item you've just bought! Bit of a design flaw, we think.
