Michael Grawe spotted this (pictured) while watching the in-flight entertainment on his Air NZ flight from Sydney to Auckland. It reads: "Visitors enjoying a day at the zoo with the Sky Tower in the background." And the population figures are a bit out too!
Chillin' out
A reader tells of an incident at a dairy in Meadowbank on Mother's Day. "I entered the shop and purchased a bottle of cream. There were two people behind a fairly long counter, one serving at one end, one at the other end with his foot up on a freezer cutting his toe nails. I said that it was disgusting and they both smiled. I contacted the Auckland City Council's health officials and was told that because the freezer was closed it was not a health issue."
Jet Star cover up
Michael Rogers was on a Jet Star flight from Auckland to Wellington on Saturday morning. "While on the plane I noticed one of the air hostesses had sticking plasters on her neck - it turned out she was covering a tattoo. Why would she need to cover this up? They are bending down to serve you most of the time and the plasters just drew more attention to the tattoo."
Itching to get even
A website in Britain called crabrevenge.com says it sells pubic lice to bitter ex-lovers. The site says it does not endorse giving people "crabs", saying the lice are for "novelty purposes only". However, it does say: "Make that bitch itch. If you want a method of revenge that doesn't involve permanent damage or risk of personal injury or jail time, you have come to the right place," according to CNews. The website says the company was started "fellows who happen to know a thing or two about biology and revenge".
Pinkwashed and hung out to dry
Alice explains that the difference in price between the pink, fundraising BluTack and the regular stuff is called "pinkwashing" and pretty much every major brand does it. "If you want to donate money to breast cancer research or some other charity, in most cases, it's better to send the money directly. At least then they can give you a receipt for tax purposes, and you know a middleman isn't making a profit off your goodwill."
About those post bags
In response to readers' comments, New Zealand Post says it hasn't changed the size of the standard C4 envelope. "The "bubble" reference suggests the comment relates to plastic "Weigh to Go" bags which were aligned with the dimensions applying under the new parcel pricing system introduced 18 months ago. Some bags were made smaller and some larger. The reduction in bag sizes resulted in a lower cost to customers, as the sizes previously available would have taken the item into the next price bracket."
