Someone clearly got their superheroes mixed up.
Stupid and stupider
"Every morning I walk around Cox's Bay Reserve in Westmere," writes a reader. "It is a gorgeous spot utilised and enjoyed by many ... but I can't decide who shows the least intelligence - those who continue to add further trash to already overflowing rubbish bins ... or the council who haven't thought to perhaps supply larger bins."
Cash's daughter not amused
The daughter of the late country singer Johnny Cash has told off the US House Minority Leader for making a joke at her father's expense. The Ohio congressman had invited an audience to hark back to the 1980s when Ronald Reagan was President, Bob Hope was still cracking jokes and Johnny Cash was still singing. Then Boehner quipped that, with Barack Obama in the White House, the US had "no Hope and no Cash". Rosanne Cash responded on Twitter with: "John Boehner: Stop using my dad's name as a punch line you [expletive]."
An apple a season
"Apples, as with all fruit, have a season, usually from January (very early) to May. The particular variety Roger mentioned (Gala) is ripe in early March. Other common varieties such as Braeburn, Splendour and Fuji are all ripe in April. By now, these apples have been kept in storage since ripening some 6-7 months, so it is not surprising he is finding little flavour in his apples. But Granny Smith is an excellent cooking and eating apple which ripens in May, so it is not so old now.
