Sober drivers in Salinas, California, could win a turkey. This is the seventh year Salinas police have added a giveaway to the Thanksgiving week checkpoint. It's become so popular that police are asking drivers not to go through the checkpoint more than once just to try to win a turkey.

A Croatian goalkeeper was shown a yellow card for rescuing a pitch-invading cat during a top-flight match. Ivan Banovic, of Medjimurje Cakovec, picked up the cat after it strayed on to the pitch 20 minutes into his team's match at Sibenik. He placed it safely near a scoreboard but was then booked by the referee for leaving the pitch without permission. Fans barracked the referee for punishing Banovic's kind deed. (Source: bbc.co.uk)

David Clemow of Papakura: "As you know, a text competition was held over the weekend with the winner receiving a $10,000 prize and a trip to New York to compete for a $100,000 prize. A Popular Mechanics magazine from 2005 reported on a competition in Australia between a 93-year-old ex-telegrapher (Morse code) and a 13-year-old winner of a text competition. For the 21 words they had to write the telegrapher beat the texter by 18 seconds."

And a New Zealand second-hand online book shop called Bookie Monster, says another. The best job/business name I've heard of is that of a London plumber, says Roger. "The Lone Drainer and Pronto." David Lynch from Whitianga says goodies in New Zealand are panelbeaters called "Wreck a Mended" and an antique shop called "In One Era and Out the Other".
