Buckets for the Cure ... Yep, that's what the Kentucky Fried Chicken's fundraising effort is called. The fast-food chain in the United States wants to raise money for the fight against breast cancer by donating 50c for every pink bucket of chicken sold.
It may seem admirable, until you realise this is the same outfit which offered their new heart attack burger (the Double Down) which has deep-fried chicken fillets instead of bread buns, with melted cheese and bacon strips in between.
It has 32g of fat and 1380mg of sodium. (Source: Slashfood.com)
Skinheads a sham
Modern skinheads are hypocrites Simon Ng writes: "Isn't it funny how things have changed over time. Spotted last Sunday afternoon at Pakuranga Westfield, two guys with shaved heads having lunch at the food court. They were hurling verbal abuse at the group of Asian shoppers nearby.
"Those guys aren't true skinheads, they are just wannabes. Both had Chinese takeaways and one even had Chinese characters tattooed on his forearm. Later I spotted them driving off in a clapped out Japanese-imported Toyota wagon.
"Perhaps someone should point out to them that true skinheads should be wearing Doc Martens, driving black Ford Cortinas, eating cold meat pies and wearing old WWII uniforms. I bet the clothes they were wearing weren't made in NZ either."
It wasn't me, officer
Pauline from the Bay of Islands writes: "Last week I was made aware of the NZ Police Community Road Watch Programme when I received a letter from them saying my vehicle was seen tailgating another vehicle on Great South Rd, Manukau on the night of Friday, April 9.
"I have proof that my vehicle and I were nowhere near Auckland at the time, but the police said 'sometimes people get a digit wrong' and 'no, we don't reply to the informant as that can result in a slanging match'. I wonder how many others have been victims of mistaken identity by informants who either need their eyesight checked or who have malicious intent?"
Bride's mother kept busy
A Milwaukee woman who went into labour on the way to hospital got help from the mother of a bride at a nearby wedding party.
Ben Sherwood was driving his wife Kimberly to the hospital when she told him they wouldn't make it. Sherwood turned to a nearby wedding party and starting yelling for a doctor.
A woman in a peach dress and high heels ran over. It was Annette Soborowicz, an emergency room nurse. A few pushes later and Soborowicz was holding little Lincoln Sherwood.
Soborowicz said Saturday was an amazing day - the Sherwoods had a son and she gained a wonderful son-in-law.
