Step aside broccoli
"It may seem that broccoli is an all-season vegetable, but at this time of year, the winter crops have finished but the spring crops are still coming on," says a vegetable expert. "So, no surprise that broccoli is small and expensive. It's a shame that we have lost touch with the seasonal nature of our fruits and vegetables. How about trying asparagus, globe artichokes, broad beans, sugar snap peas, silverbeet, kale, fennel, radishes, and lettuce, all of which happily grow this time of year."
Miner irritation
Christine writes: "On Friday night David Letterman said he would be having all 33 of the miners on the show this Tuesday (NY time). Elderly owner misses car
"Can readers keep a look out for a Silver Mazda Demio (FLG 488) stolen from outside Kingsland Bakery on Saturday, October 2," pleads Margaret.
"The owner, Peter - my elderly neighbour - went into his favourite bakery for two minutes and the thieves were watching ... They have since been using the car ... Peter got a parking ticket a few days later [fee waived]. He needs his car back urgently and he only has third party, so is not covered for another car."
