KEY POINTS:
Andrew had a good laugh about this "warranty exclusion" Payless Plastics displayed in its Manukau store.
"Apart from the fact that this sign means nothing, because the Consumer Guarantees Act covers the consumer under the understanding that 'items must be fit for their intended purpose', it also shows that the people who put this sign up must have never been camping, as sun, rain and wind are all part of the camping experience. If I followed these instructions I would be up all night dismantling and reassembling my tent, much to the detriment of my mental wellbeing. Who in their right mind would trust this tent?"

Last week Karen from Warkworth heard a courier van swing into her drive and a package hit the doorstep. "I could only laugh at the irony of it all when the small package (proudly emblazoned with the fact that it was made from biodegradable material/recyclable etc) contained a sample I'd requested from a major 'feminine hygiene product' manufacturer. So kudos that the package is recyclable, but what of the carbon footprint expended in delivering three tampons by courier!"

Hayden writes: "Amanda Care and others should know it is illegal for a taxi to turn down a fare, no matter the amount. If you get the number of the cab that declined you, you can complain to the authorities - the taxi firm, the Transport Agency, and finally the police." Another reader suggested Amanda should have bluffed it and said she was going to Pt Chev, and then changed her mind when she got to Ponsonby. "Living close to town myself, I have taken to going to the back of the taxi rank to get my taxi," says Roger. "My theory is the taxi at the back of the line would rather have a shorter run than wait until they got to the front."

Peter Hyde says that Richard Finley would find it quite dangerous to try to walk up or down Constitution Hill in a straight line, sober or otherwise. "The Maxx map cannot show that it is a very steep hill with a zigzag roadway, and it is more correct than showing a straight line. Richard must be a new arrival to Auckland. Most of us here know that the surveyed path/part roadway on Constitution Hill follows a distinct zigzag line."
