Snapped on the Southern Motorway on Sunday.
A fertile imagination too ...
Bargain hunters and TV news vans flocked to the Los Angeles home of Nadya Suleman (aka The Octomom) for a garage sale which included items used by the octuplets and Suleman herself, including an autographed nursing bra. About 150 people had filed through by 10.30am, prompting local police to close off her street to vehicle traffic less than an hour after the event started. For $10, visitors could have their photo taken with Suleman. For $100, they could have a photo snapped with the mum and her octuplets.
Too cynical to take seriously
Comedy gold in the nzherald.co.nz Your Views yesterday when readers were asked: "Do you think firms will use the GST rise as an excuse to lift prices?" One of the first to respond said: "Does the Pope wear a funny hat?" Then things just got silly ... "If you don't like the price, then don't buy the product or service", said one cliche commenter. "Nobody is forcing you to part with your money - shopping is voluntary. So is using electricity, or a bus or travel. If you are too miserable to pay, then don't buy. And if you think the supplier is making a fortune, then there is a business opportunity for you to do it cheaper. Stop moaning." Er, righto ... I'm off to set up a telco!
Breathing life into electoral race
Dead man signs on for Counties Manukau District Health Board: Reader Bernard thinks candidate David Jenkins Jones should have read over the profile guff printed in the information book accompanying voting papers. It reads: "Have had a massive accident in driving bus, I was killed while saving (dead on arrival at Auckland Hospital) 70 people uninjured. Presented in full ceremony after recovering with several citations."
Getting cross with trains
Murray writes: "The new Onehunga train service may have improved in 140 years, but at 8am on Sunday, hundreds of people waited patiently for 20 minutes for the Onehunga train. They were entrants in the Onehunga Half Marathon events and the regular 8am start was delayed till 8.20am for the train to pass over the rail crossing about 1km after the start. When will these rail crossings in busy Auckland be replaced with bridges to bring us into the 21st century at last?"
