KEY POINTS:
No, it's not supposed to be like that: Photographer Guy Hollister writes: "This stunning bridge in Mission Bay - commissioned by the Auckland City Council and partly designed by New Zealand's Virginia King - is a stunning Auckland icon. I photographed it first some four years ago and constantly since but vandals have swung on the tines and bent them. I have written to the ACC requesting repairs, yet nothing happens ... Please Dick, fix this bridge."

The US Postal Service has removed clocks from the retail areas of its 37,000 post offices. Postal service officials say the move gives the areas a more uniform look. But some observers think it is intended to keep people from noticing how long they wait in line.

A reader writes: "I am an airline pilot who was overnighting in Melbourne. It was an early morning check into an upmarket hotel. An American couple who I recognised from my flight were checking in at the same time. As I got into the elevator to go to my room this couple, pushing a baggage trolley, also got into the elevator. We both exited the lift on the same floor. The gentleman asked if I could deliver the bags to their room. I was wearing my airline uniform and had my suitcase and nav bag. Not wanting to cause a fuss I pushed the trolley down to their room, lifted the four large suitcases into their room and wished them a pleasant stay. As I left the room, the gentleman palmed me with a US$50 note for which I was very grateful. Sometimes a case of mistaken identity can be very rewarding."

Super Jonah saves the day again: While in Ponsonby on Monday morning a reader spotted Jonah Lomu helping TV3 weather presenter Toni Marsh change her tyre. "Not only was one of her rear tyres flat, so was her spare. Lomu ran one of the offending tyres down to the tyre shop and she was back on the road within an hour."

A best man sent a life-sized cardboard cut-out of himself and a pre-recorded speech when he was unable to attend a wedding in person. Racing driver Andy Priaulx was racing in Brazil, reports Britain's Daily Mirror. The cut-out stood next to the altar as Andy Richmond, 34, and Carlee Yates, 27, tied the knot in front of 100 guests. The bride even took the cut-out for a dance after the ceremony.

Ralph Williams of Pahi writes: "I was supervisor in charge of the construction gang which built the Motat tramway . Yes, the pole is undoubtedly from the Auckland tram system. We had to not only refurbish them but replace the complete lower portion of the pole as the dogs couldn't recognise that from a tree and used them in the same manner. The result was the iron at ground level was badly corroded and almost non-existent. Placing the poles was rather tricky as they were very close to the existing power lines."
